This blog is intended to create a list of Conscious Dance Music.

Let me break it down for ya:

By "Conscious" I mean tracks that intend on extending the dance experience beyond mere celebration into the intellectual realm, where intentional sounds, samples, and lyrics are employed to effect or motivate listeners and dancers to either make themselves or the world a better place once they've left the dance floor or put down the headphones.

Now we could argue whether or not "conscious" can accurately mean "make the world a better place" when it's definition is probably much broader. But I didn't want to use "positive" because there's lots of great dance music that educates and motivates that does not necessarily elicit positive emotions like in the case of some protest songs. Besides "Conscious" just sounds better.

For "Dance Music" I mean to focus on the up-tempo electronic dance genres. Some day it would be great to break it down into the myriad of dance genres that are chocked full of great conscious sounds and lyrics. But that task is daunting so I'm keeping it simple for the time being and focusing on my own particular interests in House and Breaks and a few sub genres of these.
